Zip codes in the Indianapolis metropolitan core and other urban centers such as Muncie, Terre Haute, and Bloomington display notably lower married-couple household shares, often falling below 35%, while surrounding suburban and exurban zip codes—particularly northeast of Indianapolis and in the northern tier of the state—frequently exceed 65–80%. Rural southern Indiana presents a more mixed pattern, with pockets of lower percentages along the Ohio River corridor and in areas with smaller college towns, contrasted against higher rates in adjacent rural zip codes. The strongest suburban married-couple concentrations appear in a distinct ring around Indianapolis, especially in Hamilton and Hendricks county zip codes, as well as in northeast Indiana near Fort Wayne's outer suburbs.
