U.S. Citizens (% of Population Over 18) by Zip Code (ZCTA5) — Chicago Metro

NOTE: Gray indicates insufficient data or a suppressed estimate.

Zip codes in the southern and southwestern exurbs—particularly south of Joliet and in Will County—consistently register above 95% U.S. citizenship among adults, while a belt of low-citizenship zip codes (below 80%) stretches from Cicero and the near-southwest side of Chicago through Elgin and several inner-ring suburbs with large immigrant populations. Gary and Hammond in northwest Indiana also display notably depressed citizenship rates, falling into the 75–80% range, creating a distinct cross-state cluster along the lakefront. The contrast between the high-citizenship outer-ring collar counties and the lower-citizenship urban core and older industrial suburbs underscores a clear center-periphery gradient across the metro area.
