Median Age by Zip Code (ZCTA5) — South Dakota

NOTE: Gray indicates insufficient data or a suppressed estimate.

The youngest median ages in South Dakota concentrate heavily in the Native American reservation areas of the south-central and southwestern portions of the state, where several zip codes fall below 25, as well as in the Brookings area (home to South Dakota State University) in the east. A broad swath of older-skewing zip codes with median ages above 50 stretches across much of the rural north-central and central regions, reflecting persistent outmigration of younger residents from agricultural communities. The Sioux Falls metro area in the southeast displays moderate median ages in the mid-30s to low 40s, contrasting sharply with the surrounding rural zip codes that trend noticeably older.
