Median monthly rents in Maryland peak above $2,250 in zip codes concentrated in the Washington, D.C. suburbs of Montgomery and Howard counties, as well as portions of Anne Arundel County, forming a high-cost corridor through the central part of the state. The Eastern Shore and far western Maryland—particularly Garrett and Allegany counties—display markedly lower rents, generally below $1,000, creating a stark east-west and urban-rural divide. A cluster of low-rent zip codes also appears on the lower Eastern Shore near Salisbury and in parts of southern Maryland, while the Baltimore metro area shows a patchwork of moderate-to-high rents interspersed with pockets of significantly lower values in the city's core.
