Household Average Size by Zip Code (ZCTA5) — Atlanta Metro

NOTE: Gray indicates insufficient data or a suppressed estimate.

The Atlanta metro area exhibits a pronounced urban-suburban gradient in household size, with the smallest averages (1.5–2.0) concentrated in the central Atlanta core and extending northwest along the Midtown-to-Buckhead corridor through Sandy Springs, reflecting high concentrations of single-person and couple households in apartment-dense neighborhoods. Outer suburban and exurban zip codes, particularly to the southwest, northwest near Marietta, and in the far northeast beyond Alpharetta, consistently register household sizes of 3.0–3.5+, indicative of family-oriented communities. A notable cluster of high household size (approaching 3.5) appears in the far northeast corner and in a pocket east of Brookhaven, suggesting pockets of larger or multigenerational households within otherwise moderate-density areas.
